Submit an Abstract

We are now receiving long Abstracts for the 8th ISSMMTC 2018 Abstract Volume. The deadline is next year, 15 March 2018. (Note that the abstract deadline for the conference volume published by the Geological Society of London (GSL) before the meeting is now passed. For sussessful conference volume abstract subissions, the deadline for a first draft of a paper to GSL is 1 August 2017, and the final paper submission deadline is 1 November 2017.) Oral presentations can be requested, but preference for oral presentations will be given to successful GSL authors.
To submit a long Abstract, you need to:
 
  1. Create an account:  You must create a free account in order to submit your abstract.
    • Click this link or the one in the previous line create a free account or
    • Click Sign In at the top right of the page
    • Click Create Account
    • Fill out the form and press Save. Don’t forget to enter the text verification number on the right side of the form.
    • An Email Address validation email will be sent to you. Click the link in the email.
    • Click the Validate Email address button.
    • Click Sign In and enter your credentials.
    • You will be prompted to add a security question and answer.
    • You are now logged in.
    • Click on Abstract in the menu to submit your abstract.
  2. Add an Abstract: After creating an account, return to the main Abstracts page and you should see an Add Abstract button below.
  3. Submit an Abstract for Publication: After completing the Abstract form (maximum of 500 words for the abstract body, excluding title, authors, affiliations, and the list of suggested potential reviewers), you must submit it for publication. You can optionally save it as a draft to preview it first.
  4. All Abstracts (drafts and submitted) that you have entered will be listed on the main Abstract page.
  5. If your abstract has been accepted, and you have not yet registered for the symposium, you must do so by accessing the Registration page (early bird registration closes on 1 November 2017).
  6. New Abstracts submitted after 15 February 2017 can be up to 500 words and contain 1 figure (max image size 5 Mb). Deadline for long abstracts is 15 March 2018.

How to use the Abstract submission window

  • You can either enter your abstract directly in the Abstract Body field or use another editor, such as; Word or Notepad, and paste it.
    • Most formatting will be retained if you use the ‘Paste’ or ‘Paste from Word’ options; for poster abstracts, optional images should be inserted using the insert image tool.
  • For long abstracts only (after 15 Feb 2017), optional supporting images should be inserted using the insert image tool, and should be limited to one. Accepted image files are: jpg, gif, and png.
  • Steps to Insert an Image for poster abstracts:
  1. Click the insert ‘Image’ icon in the Abstract Body editor.
  2. Click ‘Browse Server’ to open a directory in a new Window.
  3. Click the folder named after you.
  4. Click ‘Choose File’ and select an image on your computer.
  5. Click ‘Upload.’
  6. Click the link representing the image you just uploaded.
  7. Enter a desirable width or height (the other dimension will scale automatically) and select an alignment of Left or Right.
  8. Please limit the image file size to 5 megabytes.
 

Reminders:

  • Abstracts submitted after 15 February 2017 can be up to 500 words plus one image. Deadline for poster presentation abstracts is 15 March 2018.
  • If your abstract is accepted, we will make our best effort to accommodate your preferred presentation method. However, we must take into consideration the limited time slots for oral presentations, and preference for oral presentations will be given to successful GSL authors.

Return of GSL manuscripts to authors for final revision: 1 October 2017

Application for student and post-doc travel support deadline: 15 February 2018

Registration deadline for guaranteed receipt of symposium book (later registration possible at same cost without guaranteed book): 15 March 2018
